Talking about imported lentils in our country may seem strange, but it is not.

Did you know that most of the lentils that arrive on our tables are imported?

Well yes, and the numbers are very high! Even 98% of lentils do not … speak Italian and this “problem” concerns all dried legumes, giving dizzying figures.

imported lentilsIn short, just to make the idea, in 2017 we imported 360 thousand tons of dried legumes!

Despite these numbers, it seems that something in our beautiful country is slowly moving and as the crops expand and grow, we hope to be able to reach France which, with its 788 thousand tons produced (three times the boot), is the first country European manufacturer.

The fact remains that a diet increasingly oriented towards the consumption of vegetable proteins, an increasingly healthy and refined lifestyle and the evident growth of the world population oblige us to deal with reality: these numbers are currently unable to satisfy a constantly increasing need.

Just think that from 2000 to 2014 the world population has grown by 19% and the production of legumes by 17%.
