Barley

(Hordeum vulgare L.)

Common barley is an annual herbaceous plant whose vegetative cycle is very similar to that of common wheat. Barley contains starch in good quantities, proteins that provide an essential amino acid, albumin, fiber, phosphorus and niacin. From the grinding is obtained a flour which, mixed with that of wheat, is used for bread making.

Purposes
Easy to digest, rich in mineral salts, vitamins and active ingredients, it is highly energetic and its use in food entails considerable advantages for human health and animals. Barley is a cereal that is processed and used for various uses: blown to obtain flakes, toasted and ground to prepare the common beverage. The malt comes from the germination of the barley kernels and is used for the production of beer, whiskey and vodka.
